Omicron is slowly bringing back lockdowns
The “highly transmissible” Omicron variant of COVID-19 is slowly bringing back lockdown fears because of its fast spread, and countries reacting in a bid to contain it.
The World’s first move was to place travel bans on South Africa and its neighbors where the variant was spreading.
Now that it isn’t limited to Africa, as a couple of cases have been reported in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, lockdown fears are coming back.
People are fearing that the lockdowns may be back before Christmas, as the World may go back to square one in an attempt to contain Omicron.
Netherlands extended its partial lockdown because of COVID’s rapid spread. 61 COVID positives were found on two flights from South Africa, and experts fear Omicron may be among them, or quietly spreading throughout the Netherlands, and the rest of the World.
The partial lockdown will force all public, private venues to close by 5PM for the next three weeks.
Are lockdowns returning?
Travel bans were the first step to contain Omicron. Mask mandates followed by lockdowns might be the next, if cases suddenly spike throughout the World.
As the World slowly reopened, COVID once again struck, and all will depend on Omicron’s containment. Lockdowns are guaranteed if the spread picks up pace, and it is discovered that the current vaccines are indeed ineffective against this new variant.
With lockdowns, local businesses, and millions of families already in debt will once again go through financial turmoil.
Israel is banning all foreigners from entering; UK bringing back mask mandates
Israel is set to ban all foreigners from entering the country because of Omicron. It has one confirmed case of the variant and isn’t taking any risks.
The current ban includes nations from Southern Africa, but now the ban is set to be extended for everyone.
In response to the Omicron variant, the UK is now set to impose stricter measures on its citizens.
Mask mandates are set to once again be enforced, and the arrivals from countries in UK’s “red list” will need to quarantine for up to 10 days.
More details on the UK’s plans will be announced later today.
How will Biden handle this with his nonexistent popularity?
The US has remained quiet after placing the travel ban. Things won’t be easy for the Biden Administration that is under immense scrutiny over the countless crises it has created.
If President Biden does announce lockdowns, or mask mandates, then he may be met with severe criticism.
His approval rating is plummeting every month, and he may think twice before enforcing any unpopular measures.
President Biden, like every other World leader, is in a fix right now.
