Mexican hotel popular with Americans embroiled in deadly shootout

by News Desk November 5, 2021

Thursday – A 5-star hotel in Cancun, Mexico popular with American tourists was rocked with heavy gunfire between two gangs.

Two suspected gang members were killed after over a dozen members of a rival gang flooded a nearby beach. Tourists who were playing volleyball or swimming fled to nearby rooms and buildings for cover as loud gunfire sent shockwaves.

The 5-star resort was hosting an LGBTQ+ event.

Local reports are calling it a targeted killing set to take out two members of a rival gang. The two dead had allegedly claimed the territory for their operations. Thus, marking the beginning of a turf war.

The guests were escorted to the lobby once gunfire started at a nearby beach. The attackers managed to kill their targets without “seriously” hurting tourists or abducting them, according to local authorities.

Mexican politicians are condemning the incident, calling the increase in violence unacceptable and how it is no longer on the streets. Even private property or tourist destinations are no longer safe.
