Deported Honduras sex offender arrested again in Michigan
A Honduras national who was deported earlier this year after being convicted of sexual assault of a child has been caught again in Michigan after reentering the US illegally.
Detroit Station Border Patrol agents received intel from a citizen who reported the presence of the 51-year-old child sex offender.
Juan Dias-Peneda, 51, was arrested on Thursday in White Lake Township, over 37 miles away from Detroit, according to Border Patrol.
Dias-Pineda was convicted for criminal sexual conduct with a 13-year-old minor.
“Dias-Pineda, a 51-year-old native of Honduras, was charged and convicted in April 2020 for criminal sexual conduct with a person under thirteen years old,” the Border Patrol said in a statement.
He was sentenced to 207 days of confinement and 5 years probation. Dias-Pineda was formally deported in June 2021, and is now set for another trial and imminent deportation.
He has been presented for prosecution for violation of 8 USC 1326(b)(2), Re-entry of an Aggravated Felon.
The anatomy of the migrants behind the crisis
“Our streets are safer with the criminal off the streets and out of our community,” said Acting Chief Patrol Agent Robert B. Simon.
“I am extremely proud of the fast and professional work these Agents completed in a small timeframe to remove him from the streets of Michigan,” he added.
Dias-Pineda’s case isn’t rare. A great number of deported migrants end up reentering the US sooner than one would imagine. Their experience in avoiding detection helps them, and their bonds inside the country bring added benefits.
Dias-Pineda’s case also raises alarms over how to combat illegals who commit the worst crimes. Deporting them certainly doesn’t do justice to the victim(s) – Not at all since they easily reenter the US and stay for an indefinite amount of time.
In Dias-Pineda’s case, who can guarantee that the child sex offender won’t enter the US illegally a third time?
