FCC revokes license of top Chinese telecoms company

by News Desk October 27, 2021

The FCC has voted to revoke the license of one of China’s biggest telecoms provider over security concerns.

China Telecom, owned by the CCP government in China has been told to stop its services in the US within 60 days.

The telecoms provider can easily store and access US communications, something China is infamously known for.

China Telecom, has called the decision disappointing. The company had been providing services in the US for about 20 years.

In it’s statement, the state-controlled company said they are ready to use all options available to continue offering their “services.”

China Telecom is a major stakeholder in the global telecommunications market. Their services range from landline and mobile telephone networks, to broadband internet.

The company has hundreds of millions of users worldwide. It had already been warned by the FCC in April 2020 over its cooperation and/or coming under the influence of the Chinese government controlled by the CCP.

After failing to comply with the FCC’s warning, it has now been told to stop operating inside the US. FCC officials believed the company was or can easily be involved in espionage activities, which are obviously a threat to national security.

Other state-controlled companies, or companies with high probability to come under Chinese government influence/control have already been booted out of the US.

Companies like Huawei and ZTE were already designated as threats to telecommunications by the FCC last year.

China Mobile lost its license in 2019, and other Chinese state-controlled entities like China Unicom are also on the verge of losing their license.

Huawei, China Mobile, China Telecom, etc., have long been accused of spying for the CCP. Collecting data or leaving out loopholes that can provide a passage to the Chinese government for snooping into electronics devices, and/or collect data and intel.

Previously, the companies were accused of helping the Chinese government directly by carrying out espionage related operations.

Experts have now found and exposed their newest strategy which has them intentionally leave backdoor channels for Chinese “hackers” to infiltrate.

The companies allegedly leave loopholes that if caught give them the benefit of the doubt. The loopholes could be called a flaw and the companies could claim to be unaware.

Huawei’s “Harmony” OS is infamous for leading users to 3rd-party application stores where the user is unaware of what they are downloading. Once the users leave Huawei’s store, the company is no longer responsible for anything that enters the user’s phone, or any data stolen.

Chinese phones are long known for censoring words that the CCP does not like.

Apart from that, their app stores lead unsuspecting users to 3rd-party websites where the mobile phone maker would not be held liable if the users download or are bugged with spyware.

The only way for China Telecom to come back into the US would be to prove that it is no longer under the control of China and the CCP. Something unlikely to ever happen, China would instead instigate more nationalism and call the ban to be politically motivated.
