‘Friends’ actor James Michael Tyler dies at 59

F.R.I.E.N.D.S actor James Michael Tyler, who played the role of Gunther in the famous 90’s sitcom died at the age of 59.

“Tyler passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on Sunday morning,” said his manager in a statement.

“If you met him once you made a friend for life,” he continued. “[He] is survived by his wife, Jennifer Carno, the love of his life.”

Tyler was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018, and started an awareness campaign for individuals to get tested for the disease as early as the age of 40.

“Wanting to help as many people as possible, he bravely shared his story and became a campaigner for those with a prostate to get a… blood test as early as 40 years old,” the statement further added.

“The world knew him as Gunther (the seventh ‘Friend’), from the hit series Friends, but Michael’s loved ones knew him as an actor, musician, cancer-awareness advocate, and loving husband,” told his manager.

“Friends would not have been the same without you. Thank you for the laughter you brought to the show and to all of our lives. You will be so missed #JamesMichaelTyler,” said Jennifer Aniston in an Instagram post alongside a brief clip from the show featuring her as Rachel and Tyler as Gunther.

“The size of gratitude you brought into the room and showed every day on set is the size of the gratitude I hold for having known you. Rest In peace James,” posted Courtney Cox who starred as Monica Geller in F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

Lisa Kudrow who played Phoebe Buffay also shared her grief in an online post. “James Michael Tyler, we will miss you. Thank you for being there for us all, #jamesmichealtyler
