1 dead, 12 wounded in Tennessee Kroger grocery store shooting

An individual opened fire in a Kroger grocery store, shooting at least a dozen people and killing one.

The unknown shooter was also found dead due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities.

A police dispatch responded to the reports of a shooter at 1:30PM local time at the Kroger grocery store in Collierville, Tennessee.

Collierville is approximately 30 miles east of Memphis.

Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane said, the SWAT teams searched each aisle of the supermarket, helping the injured and rescuing several employees, some of whom were taking shelter inside freezers.

“This scene is horrific. I’ve been involved in this for 34 years and never seen anything like it,” told Lane.

“We found people hiding in freezers. They were doing what they had been trained to do: Run, hide, and fight,” he added.

The injured employees were transported to a local hospital.

Chief Lane also hinted the number of victims is “probably going to change,” as some of the injuries were confirmed as “very serious.”

Tennessee senators, Sen. Bill Hagerty and Sen. Marsha Blackburn reacted to the incident and showed support for victims.
