The Texas coast is under hurricane watch as Tropical Storm Nicholas makes its way towards the Gulf.

Nicholas is expected to gain strength as it gets closer to the coast and is the 14th storm named this season.

The warning is in effect from Rio Grande to Port Aransas north and is expected to reach peak speeds of about 70mph.

A storm surge warning which cautions of life-threatening emergencies during the next 40 hours has been issued for the affected areas.

Heavy rainfall is expected to deal the most damage to parts of the Texas coast and might also become the biggest threat to life.

Flash flood watch is currently on the lookout in the coastal areas of Texas and Louisiana, waters in the worst hit areas could go up to 15 feet because of the rainfall.

Flash flood warnings are also being prepared for over 7 million people in the affected coasts.

Rainfall might inflict damage to the remainder of Louisiana including the already battered city of New Orleans.
