UK: England vaccine passport plans scrapped

by News Desk September 12, 2021

COVID-19 vaccine passports were all set to be issued in England as last reported by us but the plans have now been scrapped.

The plans to introduce vaccine passports for large events and nightclubs have been ditched after they were announced on September 5.

The move was criticized by business owners, British parliamentarians and the Nightclub associations.

The British government has now decided to keep it in reserve for probable use during winter or autumn if COVID cases spike.

If implemented, people trying to enter crowded events and nightclubs would need to show proof of double vaccination.

The unvaccinated would be required to show proof of a negative PCR test and those with a positive test would be required to show proof of a 14-day quarantine.

Nightclub associations had warned of the move destroying their businesses and British parliamentarians opposed the move by calling it unfeasible and too expensive.

The British government has defended the reversal by saying the passports are no longer needed because vaccination rates are up and there are new treatments available to battle the virus.

England’s reversal comes in just a week after the announcement. Scotland however, would still go with the restrictions from October 01.
