Canada: Trudeau pelted with stones
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been pelted with gravel when he was returning back to his bus after visiting a brewery.
He was not injured in the “disgusting” act as described by opposition Conservative Party’s Erin O’Toole.
Trudeau called a snap-election midway last month in a bid to get back the majority in the House of Commons.
Since then his campaign to rebuild his damaged image after the blackface scandal and COVID response has faced a lot of hurdles.
He was called a “communist f***” and had his scheduled events disrupted.
Just last week, he was forced to cancel an event after it was ambushed by angry protestors.
Trudeau while boarding his campaign plane compared the incident to the one in 2016 when a woman threw pumpkin seeds at him.
He said he was struck on the shoulder in the attack.
According to a reporter of the CTV National News, two people travelling on the media bus were also hit by the gravel.
The violent action has been condemned by everyone including Trudeau’s political rivals.
Trudeau gambled in a move to get back the lost majority, and a large number of Canadians are not happy with his vaccine rollout and mandates.
Vaccine mandates prohibit unvaccinated individuals to board public transport like commercial planes, trains and cruise liners.
All civil servants are also required to get vaccinated by the end of October if they want to keep their jobs, and many Canadians are unhappy with the announcement.
Experts are anticipating a close election with Trudeau not favorite to win. If he does win, then may still have to rely on the Opposition vote to get his agenda passed.
