The media’s special attention and biased coverage of Cuomo

by News Desk March 21, 2021

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was once the star of the Democratic party in 2020, the media’s special attention and biased coverage showcased him as a genius with all the answers. The perfect human being. The Trump challenger.

His response to the Coronavirus Pandemic was hailed everywhere including the mainstream media.

Cuomo held daily press briefings mocking the Federal government for its slow response to the Pandemic and President Trump’s inefficiency in combating it.

The Federal Government sent him ventilators, but Andrew Cuomo lambasted them for sending less. He single-handedly turned the Pandemic response into a media frenzy where everything he said mattered the most as a self-styled prophet while the mainstream media looked for guidance and a role-model whose policies and response all other States and the Federal Government should follow.

Some even suggested that Cuomo should run for President in the 2020 elections as no one expected Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden to beat President Trump. When Joe Biden was nominated to face President Trump there was a looming depression in the Democratic party and mainstream analysts. All of them saw Biden as a weak candidate incapable of beating Trump.

There wasn’t a day when Andrew Cuomo did not undermine the Federal Government’s help and effort. He was just perfect. Andrew Cuomo the man who handled the Coronavirus Pandemic efficiently with little help from a Federal Government that was unwilling to help. His State, the worst hit at the time, and his response, hailed as the most efficient.

Cuomo was even called the face of the Democratic party and all was going well not for the State of New York, but for Andrew Cuomo with even Joe Biden heaping praise for the now estranged Governor.

The Democratic party sweetheart has now become a toothache and it all happened as fast as the first year of the Pandemic; the bigger Cuomo grew, the harder he fell without realizing the more he tried to cling on the worse it would be for him.

But how did everyone’s favorite Governor end-up this way? After all, he was perfect, who did everything right, so right he even wrote a book on his Coronavirus response and the leadership lessons the Pandemic taught him.

Cuomo’s sudden downfall

It all started right when the first few cases of the virus were reported. New York City being the first hit in the State of New York (With its first confirmed case on March 01, 2020).

Cuomo wasn’t as quick with his actions as he was with his press briefings and whatever he had requested from the Federal Government was always in front of the media.

He made sure that the White House was on the defense and made it hard for the Trump Administration to sit idle in the wake of the Pandemic.

The Governor became so vocal that he started a competition between him and the White House, everything had to be shared in the media. Even the numbers. Everything.

The Pandemic response turned into a virtual election campaign, with the Democrats, led by Governor Andrew Cuomo, throwing dirt on President Trump putting him on the defense throughout his election campaign.

It was a smart strategy as it did work in the end. No matter what Trump did it was always presumed to be bad and not enough.

Cuomo’s response to the Pandemic was the basic response of the Democratic party led by the advice of doctors who said to try and curb the spread of the virus by containing it.

The basic WHO quarantine procedure was expected to work and it would have worked – if only people didn’t have to rely on food and water to stay alive, if the virus was somehow visible and people knew where not to go and how to avoid it, or if there was a surefire way of knowing who was carrying it but wasn’t showing any symptoms.

None of that was possible as:

  1. a. People had to work to earn money in order to feed themselves and their families.
  2. b. There was no way we could have seen the virus.
  3. c. With our population levels and resources there was no surefire way of detecting the virus without nasal swabs in those who were asymptomatic.

So, Cuomo did what he deemed fit and best at the time.

As Governor he took a tough measure to stop businesses from staying open so that people don’t gather and the spread of the Coronavirus slows down or stops. Although the lockdowns weren’t working, they were somehow working for the media which had their top analysts and news anchors working from home making videos of how hard it is to be in their mansions and what to do at home, etc.

As people were losing their loved ones and their sources of income, the media was busy making fun short videos of the stress the lockdown had them under and why it (the lockdown) is important.

None of them had to lose their jobs or had to sleep on an empty stomach so that they could have a full breakfast the next morning. But in their World it was all gonna work out and everything would be better, and they would relate with normal people.

The Governors who weren’t following Andrew Cuomo’s policies and allowed businesses to stay open after the primary lockdown were criticized and ridiculed 24/7 on the media.

Even when the State of New York was the epicenter of the Pandemic, all was well for New York and Andrew Cuomo’s model was still deemed the best by the mainstream media.

The people who were unable to follow the stay-at-home orders were “exposed” and criticized by “good Samaritans” who were always on the lookout for those disobeying the Government and putting everyone’s lives in danger while trying to earn a living.

Andrew Cuomo got a lot of support. Too much support if we look at it now. Even his hit or miss decisions when the Pandemic began had the full backing of his party and the media.

Everyone had a target to achieve. Nothing was bigger than taking down Donald Trump and they had to stay united in their fight for the White House.

No one had the guts to criticize Cuomo as it would have been an instant death sentence and would hurt their “cause”; that silence resulted in many innocents losing their lives and their loved ones. That silence has now brought Cuomo down.

His Pandemic response caused over Six Thousand Nursing Home deaths. The same response that had him on TV every day, that was deemed the best, the one he wrote a book about.

COVID-19 Nursing Home Deaths

March 25, 2020, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Department of Health issued an advisory ordering the admission of COVID positive patients to Nursing homes (As the State was running out of beds and space, the Governor and his team decided to use nursing homes to house the excess of patients).

This order was later revoked (May 10, 2020) after criticism from medical experts. By that time, as many as 4500 COVID-19 infected patients were situated inside Nursing homes in the State of New York.

– Over Six Thousand Loved Ones Lost

But the issue isn’t about a decision he made when all this happened. No one had the experience to combat a Pandemic of this proportion and let’s be fair, everyone makes mistakes.

The issue is that he understated the Nursing Home COVID-19 deaths by as much as 50%, as found in the report released by the Attorney General of the State of New York.

This indicates that Cuomo tried to cover it up. The New York Post alleged in its report that Cuomo’s secretary and aide Melissa deRosa privately apologized to lawmakers for the administration’s concealment of the nursing-home death toll in fear that then-President Donald Trump would “turn this into a giant political football.”

Investigations are underway and people are rightly demanding justice for themselves and their loved ones.

Over six thousand lives lost and all Andrew Cuomo and his administration could think of was petty politics. We would be saying this in hindsight, but who in their right minds would want to send patients affected by the virus to nursing homes? How did no one see this coming?

Did everyone ignore it because the focus and goal was the 2020 Presidential Elections?

Andrew Cuomo was highly incompetent in his decision-making and innocent people were led to believe that he not only had the best response but is so good that he should run for President.

The standard that the Democratic party boasts about and has set is an instant resignation the minute you lose your credibility, but Andrew Cuomo did not resign. To be somehow fair to him, everyone is human and humans make mistakes, but the concealment for political reasons or gains puts him in doubt, and those demanding justice have every right to call him out.

Cuomo sex harassment allegations mounting

Bureaucratic incompetence and political gains aren’t the only things here to expose and haunt Andrew Cuomo.

He has been accused of sexual harassment by not one, not two but ten women. Their allegations are horrifying and if true, show how easy it is for people to use their power and prestige to exploit their aides and employees.

Cuomo released a statement that tried to downplay the situation and hoping to minimize the effects of the accusations while giving him yet another chance to stay in power.

He did not resign when his decisions for political gains costed people their lives and he did not resign when he was accused by ten women for inappropriate conduct.

Over the years the Democratic party has had a no compromise policy on sexual misconduct. It has started countless witch-hunts to take down powerful people but more importantly powerful opponents.

We say powerful opponents because we have not seen the same standards being applied on people or allies of the party.

We strongly believe that everyone should be heard and needs to be given justice but we must expose the double-standards when others are quiet.

Today, even Andrew Cuomo’s past statements of perfect wisdom are coming back to haunt him.

President Trump, you said you would watch the hearings today. I believe Dr. Ford’s testimony is very compelling. Only a political skeptic could find a reason to disbelieve her. What is her possible motive to lie? In any event, I fear this will just increase the political polarization. Whatever happens, your decision will be tainted for history and with it the credibility of the Supreme Court.

Here is one basic fact that badly hurts Judge Kavanaugh: Why won’t he take a polygraph? Dr. Ford did. If he does not take a polygraph test, it is the ultimate, ‘he said, she said.’ It is the one powerful piece of evidence that seriously damages his credibility and the credibility of his Republican supporters, including yourself. You can and should ask him to take the test. If he refuses, you should pull the appointment. It will show at least a modicum of fairness on your part. If you do not insist that Judge Kavanaugh take a polygraph, it will be further evidence that you are putting political motivation over your constitutional obligation. Do not aid and abet a lie. Demand a polygraph.

Andrew Cuomo asking then-President Trump to demand judge Kavanaugh to take a polygraph test.

The victims of Andrew Cuomo need to be heard and given justice – The victims who lost their lives not only because of his misjudgments but because of his will for political gains, and the victims who he allegedly harassed sexually.

Andrew Cuomo was never perfect and likely will never be but he was portrayed as the perfect human being by the media and its followers. His story teaches us a valuable lesson that we should never give anyone a free pass.

The mob like attitude the mainstream media had on Cuomo’s critics during the Pandemic is one of the main reasons for his actions and decisions that led to his downfall.

The media has to keep balance and always side with the truth. There should be no compromises by the media to protect their agendas or agendas they support or tilt towards.

The media has the power to guarantee that no one person, side can hijack the system, become totalitarian.

If the media sides with one group and turns a blind eye then the result would always be an Andrew Cuomo.
