Hurricane Ida: Makes landfall

Ida has been downgraded to a category 3 hurricane after hitting Louisiana, maintaining speeds of 125mph.


Hurricane Ida strikes Louisiana as one of the most powerful storms in US history. Reversing the flow of the Mississippi river, the storm makes its way from the Louisiana coast towards New Orleans.

The category 4 storm, ravaging at speeds of about 150mph caused a massive power blackout in the state of Louisiana as the 911 lines go down.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards has requested a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration from President Biden to get aid and additional help in curbing the devastation being caused by the storm.

Several pictures and videos of the hurricane, and the destruction it caused are being posted online. The official twitter page of St. Bernard Parish posted a camera footage of the storm.
