Afghanistan: Explosion outside Kabul airport
An explosion was heard outside the Hamid Karzai Airport in Kabul just hours after the US and other forces warned of security threats and pleaded their nationals not to travel, and those were there to leave the area.
The explosion was confirmed by the Pentagon. The number of casualties is still unknown.
“We can confirm an explosion outside Kabul airport,” Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby, told in a twitter post. “Casualties are unclear at this time. We will provide additional details when we can.” He continued.
Various countries had halted the evacuation procedures following the security threats, as the US vowed to continue flights until the end of August to meet the deadline given by President Biden.
