Afghanistan: Biden addresses the nation
As American troops have started leaving, with the evacuations poised to end by the 31st, President Biden has held another press briefing on the issue that has plagued the entire World for almost a month.
His press briefing comes after the meeting with the G7 leaders where he reiterated his stance to end all military and evacuation operations in Afghanistan by August 31.
Biden said over 70,000 people have been evacuated from the Kabul airport since August 14, and he was adamant the process will conclude by August 31. He also acknowledged the role of the Taliban, saying they helped get US citizens safely out and to the airport. He also added that countries will judge the Taliban by their actions, also hinting that no one will trust the Taliban for keeping their word and they will have to take actions to gain the trust, actions that give rights to women and all Afghans, actions where they don’t let terrorist organizations live, etc.
Brushing aside the assessments about allies disagreeing with his policy, Biden while thanking all allies said they agreed to work closely together (like always) to combat challenges arising from Afghanistan.
In the end he took no questions from reporters and said the longer we stay in Afghanistan, the dangerous it will get.
