Afghanistan: World Bank suspends aid
All aid to Afghanistan has been suspended by the World Bank after the country was overrun by the Taliban, deposing the elected government and implementing Sharia law while also announcing a new state, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
No country has recognized the new state, and the World Bank is looking for new ways to engage with the country and follow through with their developmental goals.
The World Bank has provided about $5.3b to the country for over 12 different developmental projects.
