Update: 22 people have died, dozens still missing.

Over 20 people have died including two children and at least 50 are missing in Middle Tennessee because of the severe flooding. The two children were swept away from their father by the floodwater leaving the parents and the entire nation in grief.

Rescue operations are underway and according to officials, people are trapped in their homes because of the rising floodwater.

Authorities have established several shelters for those rescued and or displaced, and according to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency over 3000 people were left without electricity with regular patrols being conducted in order to keep an eye on the situation.

The National Weather Service had already called this flood “catastrophic.”

People are even claiming this to be Tennessee’s biggest recorded 24-hour rainfall. Dozens if not hundreds of vehicles have been damaged or destroyed by this flooding and thousands of houses have been damaged, with people losing their belongings.

16.99 inches of rain fell in a Middle Tennessee county, a record. Loretta Lynn’s ranch was also hit and her foreman, Wayne Spears, has died after being swept away by the floodwaters.
