Afghanistan: Taliban returning to their old ways

by News Desk August 20, 2021

After taking over Afghanistan, the Taliban soon promised everyone forgiveness and encouraged government officials to get back to work, but soon after declaring the birth of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan they have started going back to their old ways and the feared killings have begun.

The honeymoon that they pushed which propagated to show them to have changed is coming to an end. From shooting at those peacefully protesting against the change of the Afghan flag to killing a relative of a “most wanted” journalist who works for DW news, to the search for those who worked for the military, security institutions, are close or loyal to the previous administration. The Taliban have marked the beginning of what they have always been known for. Violent persecution.

They have reportedly begun the “persecution” or ethnic cleansing of Shia Hazaras, a minority that makes up 9% of Afghanistan and has always been forced to covert to Sunnism or face death and have also faced persecution or discrimination for being of Mongoloid descent. They already created roadblocks for those trying to get to the airport to be evacuated and have now started becoming reactive and the more they react the more violence they will spark.

A video that surfaced online showed some Taliban fighters riding bumper cars in an amusement park. It sent out a message to the World of how they had never seen such a thing before in their lives. The amusement park has since been burned to the ground, in order to stop the fighters from falling astray.

Women have also been seen protesting in Kabul and it is still unclear what their fate will be, whether they will be able to live freely or face persecution and even death, if not a week or month later but a few years after the Taliban have been recognized by a small number of countries.

Afghan interpreters who worked for the US and even those who worked for other countries have also reported of getting death threats. If the Taliban fail to capture them then they will go after their families, something they have already done and also indicated of doing. The Taliban fighters are already conducting house searches in order to find “most wanted” journalists, ending up hurting or harassing their families.

We should note that these are the reported acts of violence and we still have no idea of the unreported happenings throughout Afghanistan.

Afghanistan‘s humanitarian crisis is also mounting and millions are going to end up experiencing hunger or deprivation from vital necessities as the government officials are avoiding going back to work under the Taliban and the country’s economy will face a complete reset, resulting in the currency hitting rock bottom and the country relying on foreign aid to feed its people until they can restart the new system.

A storm is evidently brewing up in Afghanistan as several areas are gearing up to defend themselves from the Taliban, and if those areas along with the warlords react then we will see the beginning of a new civil war. All eyes are on the Taliban, if they mount the persecutions then those persecuted along with other ethnic groups will react, and a reaction will then lead to a fallout.
