Afghanistan: Ghani rules out resignation

by News Desk August 14, 2021

Update: Ashraf Ghani indeed resigned ahead of Monday.

As per our sources, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani was to resign ahead of Monday. Ghani addressed his nation today and in a somber speech he vowed remobilization of his forces and assured that serious steps were being taken to ensure it.

Ghani while praising his security forces declared he would not allow an “imposed” war take the lives of more people. The speech according to sources was to bring his resignation, but Ghani himself ruled it out.

Shedding light on his responsibilities Ghani said his responsibility was to prevent further instability, violence and displacement of his people. Judging his performance by the goals set out by him it is evident that he has failed. The Taliban managed to take control of half of the provincial capitals in 8 days and Ghani was forced to remove his army chief and try and garner support from different warlords who in the past and to date hate each other or have fought against one another.

Ghani last week indicated his interest to arm militias and if this strategy is brought forward then another civil war will ensue Afghanistan as the militias will do what the Taliban have been doing. They will also attack other ethnicities and tribal warfare would engulf Afghanistan once more.

World powers are trying to bring in an interim setup with the Taliban on-board but without proper victories in the field, the Afghan government has less to gamble with and in the end beggars can’t be choosers. Without forgiving each others’ past “deeds” and crimes against other ethnicities and tribes the Afghan warlords, leaders and people can never move forward and will always bear arms in “hope” to capture Afghanistan for their kind and govern it.
