Swiss embassy asks Chinese “media” to remove fake news
The Embassy of Switzerland in Beijing has asked the Chinese “media” to remove articles and posts that contain quotes from an alleged Swiss scientist who does not exist.
Chinese state-controlled media in recent months has hired or mimicked certain foreign actors who roam China showcasing how “free” everyone is over there and cite social media posts of foreign actors who have a dubious background and one of those as pointed out by the Swiss embassy does not exist.
State-controlled media outlets like CGTN and Global Times started their propaganda citing articles and posts from an alleged Swiss biologist Wilson Edwards. The alleged biologist had made comments on the origins of the Wuhan virus and also the WHO’s independence.

The outlets quoted his social media page that according to the Swiss embassy was created a few weeks ago and it also had no record of this alleged “person.”
“Looking for Wilson Edwards, alleged [Swiss] biologist, cited in press and social media in China over the last several days. If you exist, we would like to meet you! But it is more likely that this is a fake news, and we call on the Chinese press and netizens to take down the posts,” said the mission in a tweet.
Since then the “media” outlets have removed the name of the alleged biologist. One of many they have quoted in recent months.
