Scarlett Johansson sues Disney
Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney over an alleged breach of contract following the release of her movie ‘Black Widow’ on Disney’s streaming service Disney+.
The film ‘Black Widow’ was released in theaters and on Disney’s streaming service Disney+ at the same time which allegedly breached the actress’ agreement with Marvel Entertainment which is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company.
Ms. Johansson claimed in the lawsuit that the agreement guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release and a large part of Ms. Johansson’s salary was based on the film’s box office performance and she would allegedly lose over $50 million because of the film’s release on the streaming service.
Disney however, has come back strong and has exposed the money and compensation given to Johansson and has also claimed of her not understanding the impact the pandemic has had on the industry, to which the Black Widow star’s attorney John Berlinski of the Kasowitz Benson Torres LLP, has released a statement criticizing Disney for hiding behind the Pandemic so that it can increase the number of its subscribers on Disney+.
