George Floyd Riots: Protester sentenced for Police station arson

Dylan Shakespeare Robinson a 23-year-old from Brainerd, Minnesota, who pleaded guilty in December for the Minneapolis Third Precinct Police Station arson during the riots triggered by the death of George Floyd has been sentenced to 4 years in prison with a fine of $12 millions.

Last year, the death of George Floyd in Police custody caused major civil upheaval across the United States. Protesters took to the streets seeking justice for George Floyd. The protests organized by the Black Lives Matter group that spanned over a week were soon hijacked by vandals, arsonists and those wanting violence. The protests turned into riots and became infamous for setting buildings ablaze, stealing high-end electronics, apparels, etc. They wanted to defund the Police and started a chain of attacks on law enforcement.

The prosecution claimed Robinson had lit a Molotov cocktail which another person threw into the Minneapolis Third Precinct Police Station, consequently setting the building on fire.

The defendant’s attorney regarding the $12 million fine stated, “There is no realistic chance that he is going to pay anything but a minuscule amount toward that”.

Three other men who also pleaded guilty for the arson will be charged at a later date.
